Sandwich Mania…

subway

Yes, I’m still talking about the road trip.

Our cross country trip a few weeks ago wasn’t a vacation or a sightseeing adventure; our goal was to get to Los Angeles as fast as possible so Josh could start settling into his new life and job. We didn’t have time to seek out interesting restaurants, or to even stop and sit down at a restaurant and eat more than once per day (if that!). Basically- we ate rest stop food for four days. How did we do?

On day 1, we discovered Subway Scrabble. Similar to old school McDonald’s Monopoly (actually, they’re still doing it, but I haven’t eaten McDonalds since…well, forever), you collect game pieces from cups, wrappers etc and assemble them on the official game board to form words and win prizes. We needed *something* to keep us going (besides the 90s radio station), and pretty soon we had a strategy and were eating at subway two meals a day.

Was it terrible to eat Subway two meals a day? Surprisingly, not really. In my opinion, it was better than eating a burger and fries, and less time consuming (and cheaper) than going to a restaurant. And who said I was doing this Jared style, anyway? No weight was lost while eating Subway for a week straight. Trust me.

Did we win anything? Well, no. This week, Josh and I are hanging our heads in defeat. I won’t tell you how painfully close to winning we were. Did I drive around to multiple subways after work, trying to get the winning letter? Maybe. Did I eat some good sandwiches and not have to cook for awhile? Yes. Success.
