A few days ago, Serious Eats blogged about Alton Brown making oatmeal in a coffee pot. They call him “a savior to oatmeal eaters everywhere”.
Is this honestly an innovation? If you’re a real “oatmeal eater” in a desperate sitation, would you seriously need Alton Brown to tell you how to do this, step by step?
Maybe if you only have half a brain. Doesn’t everyone know you can make oatmeal by simply adding hot water, no matter where it comes from? The office water cooler, the coffee pot, the tea kettle, etc etc etc.
Last week, pre Alton Brown oatmeal phenomenon, Josh and I made oatmeal in a seedy Springfield, Missouri hotel. Using the coffee pot.

I also used to do this… by using the hot water in Hassinger- the water was just normally so hot, it cooked oatmeal while I brushed my teeth. Thanks, SU. Valuable life lessons. And yes, you’re ready for your show
